Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is a viral infection that causes a painful rash. There are four stages of shingles:
- Prodromal Stage: This stage is characterized by tingling, itching, or burning sensations in a specific area of the skin. This stage can last for several days before the rash appears.
- Blister Stage: In this stage, red, fluid-filled blisters begin to form on the skin. These blisters can be very painful and sensitive to the touch. This stage can last for several days.
- Weeping Stage: In this stage, the blisters begin to break open and release fluid. The area may be very painful and sensitive, and the skin may become swollen and red. This stage can last for several days.
- Crusting Stage: In this stage, the blisters begin to dry out and form scabs. The scabs will eventually fall off, and the skin underneath may be pink or slightly discolored. This stage can last for several weeks.
